Breaking Boundaries - a music campaign to spread the word about deafblindness
19 August 2014
B-Side Project and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Foundation have launched Breaking Boundaries, a campaign that aims to build awareness for deafblind charities and raise funds for sensory projects and music therapy for children and young people across the globe.
The first focus of the campaign will be to raise funds for the music workshops at Sense's Woodside Family Centre in Bristol and for Sense International Peru.
DJ and radio presenter Yvette Chivers (MissChivers) is undertaking a DJ tour across August and September in the UK and Ibiza to raise money for the campaign.
Yvette, who has a degenerative eye condition known as retinitis pigmentosa, said:
"I truly believe that music has kept me positive throughout. It is one of the most important things to me. Although I am registered partially sighted, to me it is totally incomprehensible to have hearing loss too. There are young people and children with both sight and hearing loss, who can be really helped through music therapy projects that Sense facilitates."
Yvette will also be taking a ten day trek to Machu Picchu in October for the campaign. Whilst in Peru she will be visiting Sense International to volunteer with their music workshops and experience first-hand how the funds can really make a difference.
MissChivers recently paid a visit to one of the Woodside Family Centre's weekly music therapy sessions to see how deafblind children can learn how to communicate through music.
Everyone who attends DJ MissChivers' events will have a chance to win a pair of guest list tickets including return flights from the UK to We Love Closing Party at Space, Ibiza on Sunday 28 September.
